Environmental assessments for coastal projects with marine habitat mapping, sediment data, remedial needs, receiving-water understanding and regulatory dialogue, for example in Oslo port areas and during the installation of the immersed tunnel on the fjord bed near the Opera House, see image.
Assessment of environmental conditions, risks and remedial measures at sites with historical mining and industrial impacts. We have supported reductions in toxic discharges from Norway's sulphide mines for many years.
Hisøy Miljø has numerous references for fieldwork and documentation for project owners, providing the basis for applications, action plans, follow-up and communication with authorities and affected parties.
We have helped design and develop a range of blue-green and nature-based facilities combining hydraulic function, treatment performance and ecological considerations.
Environmental support where water, soil, nature and planning must be considered together to maintain progress. We undertook a major engineering task in constructing the well-functioning artificial water basin on the former harbour floor at Sørenga, based on a concept sketch by Erik Schia, see image.
For more than 20 years, investigations and pilot projects have sought to improve ecological conditions in Viksfjorden, Larvik. In cooperation with Matfat Oslofjorden, Hisøy Miljø has established Fellesskap Viksfjorden and a Living Lab in the fjord area. Early environmental clarification reduces uncertainty in transactions, planning and project development. In summer 2026, Hisøy Miljø completed an extensive EDD for the Tofte area in Hurum, Asker, and identified significant uncertainty in the existing environmental cost estimates, which affected the outcome of property transactions.
Bioremediation of contaminated soil - the 2024 regulatory change once again permits bacterial treatment – Hisøy Miljø has many years of experience! In summer 2026, an area contaminated by oil in Asker Municipality was cleared after bacterial treatment. This avoided both discharges to a nearby river and excavation work in vulnerable natural areas.
The image shows odour dispersion modelling in Tau, Strand Municipality. We assess odour potential from production facilities and disposal sites, dispersion towards homes and other sensitive receptors, and propose technical and operational measures that reduce the risk of unacceptable odour impacts.
Soil-conservation studies for developments affected by the Norwegian Land Act, LNF land-use categories, soil protection and cultivable-land considerations. We assist developers, including in Ås Municipality, with the regulatory framework and, where required, classification of soil types.
